Extended Training
Unbelts can sign-up for an extended training (nominally 30min, but it’s not a hard limit) with a knight who has volunteered for this project. Duke Morgan will not be in armor, but he has volunteered to watch your fights and offer insights into how you can improve.

If you are interested, click on this link to see which knights are available, and how many unbelts they are willing to work with. Then comment on the post at the Facebook event site with your SCA name, the knight’s name, and whether you want to session to be private (one-on-one) or public (you will set the topic, but others can observe or participate).

Your name will be added to the list, first come, first serve. This list will also be available at ToC on the list table, where further sign-up by knights and unbelts can happen.

This extended training can occur during Sessions 1-4 and is concurrent with the chiv who are working with unbelts from the traditional waiting line for 10min sessions or crown rounds.

Armored Classes
There will be one hour-long class session, and we have three teachers lined up.
Two-Sword Skills with Count Thorbrandr. A class on basic two-sword techniques and tactics.
Hip-engagement with Sir Hjorleif. The primary focus of this session will be on hip integration and the importance of using your hips to power your technique. Participants will learn how to utilize the hip via muscle transfer so as to not telegraph blows, prevent avoidable injury in weaker joints, and maintain good foot work.
Melee Tactics with Duke Konrad. Melee tactics and command structure for local to interkingdom war. How to read the field and fundamental principles to apply during battle.

Big Bear Pit Tourney
The rules for the bear pit will mostly be the same as in recent years. We will start with chiv holding the field, and if the unbelt wins the fight, the unbelt gets to take that spot on the floor and hold it until they lose. Chiv can re-enter the list as often as they like (but only against an unbelt.)

Each unbelt will get two stickers when they first sign in at the list table. Unbelts can earn another sticker each time they work with a chiv during sessions 1 & 4 or take a class during session 2. Maximum total has been raised to 15 stickers.

Then in session 5, the bear pit, unbelts will pay one sticker each time they enter the list field. You may continue fighting in the bearpit until you run out of stickers. Stickers can be stuck to your shield, your haft, your surcoat, etc. Yes, stickers are transferable. If you are done for the day, you can give your remaining stickers to one or more of your friends.

Score tracking will be optional this year. If you want to score you can request a number at the list table prior to the tourney. Scoring will be the same as in the past: 1 point for losing a fight, 2 points for defeating an unbelt, 3 points for defeating a knight. Loser reports to the list table, winner stays in that spot.

If you don’t want to bother with scoring and just fight for the fun of it, we encourage that too. And there will be one list open for pickups for those who don’t want to enter the tourney.

If parts of this are unclear, feel free to post questions in the comments at the Facebook event site.

Youth Boffer Combat
Lord Luftwine Byrnsmiþ and Baron Abelard die Elster will be coordinating Youth Boffer Combat from 9am-Noon.
Not only does this offer the youngest fighters amongst us an opportunity to test their skills, it also offers any seeking a youth sparring authorization the opportunity to acquire it.
A very large thank you to both Luftwine and Abelard.
In general, we’ll also be looking for help running the field, so if you’re willing to marshal or run the list for a little bit, thank you in advance.

Griffin Claw Defense
Takeda Shinjiro Shintate will be defending the Griffin’s Claw at Tournament of Chivalry this Saturday. He will be accepting the first three challengers and, depending on energy levels, may accept more. Griffin Claw rules are available at this link.

A Royal Solar
Please feel free to bring chairs, rugs, cushions, etc. and join our Queen for chatting and projects near the windows in the gymnasium at ToC! Hopefully there will be sun to inspire a “solar” – but we should all bring rugs and shawls and things because it’s chilly by the windows.
From: HRM Guenievre, who has lots of Gulf Wars prep to do
NOTE: Her Majesty has covid in her household so she will not be in attendance.
This solar will be hosted by HRH Mary.
